Rather than using a more intricate drawing, this book cover uses a more simple illustration technique that helps depict the complex storyline. A flat style with distressed texture creates mystery and allows for many subtle elements from the story to be incorporated into the design.
The inside illustrations at the start of each chapter use the same distressed background. The imagery is slightly modified to one color because of the printing of the inside of the book.
